Byrne Grant Awarded to Reduce and Prevent Crime in Evansville’s Jacobsville Neighborhood

BGW contracted with ECHO Housing Corporation (EHC) to secure a $600,000 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The two-phase grant allowed EHC and partners to plan and implement a comprehensive crime prevention initiative in Evansville’s Jacobsville neighborhood.

BGW managed the two-phase application development process with the client, evaluation partner and community stakeholders. The project required extensive information gathering, research of crime drivers and evidence-based crime prevention strategies, writing and overseeing the submission of both the planning grant and implementation grant applications.

Through this project, BGW contributed to a decrease in reported crime in the neighborhood by 18% and a 30% decrease in reported crime in the original 22 neighborhood crime hotspots.
